Celebrity Dance Challenge featuring Vibe participant Dr. Linda Buchanan

We are incredibly proud of very our own Alpharetta Vibe Tribe member, Dr. Linda Buchanan, who will be participating in the 9th Annual Celebrity Dance Challenge benefiting Eating Disorders Information Network (EDIN). This charity dance challenge modeled after Dancing with the Stars serves to promote body positivity while raising awareness about eating disorders.

Founded in 1996 by Dina Zeckhausen, EDIN was created as a connection point for those struggling to find help as well as resources for industry professionals. Today, the organization is dedicated to the prevention of the physical, psychological, familial and financial losses caused by eating disorders through education, awareness and early intervention.

Linda founded the Atlanta Center of Eating Disorders in 1993, which was acquired by Walden Behavioral Health Care in 2017. She is now Senior Director of Clinical Services with Walden, a leading health care system specializing in the treatment of eating disorders. A psychologist, wife, mother, author and Vibe participant is joining the ranks of this fundraiser as a dancer.

Dancing with instructor Allison Moncrief has been an integral part of her weekly workout schedule. Linda has been an avid Club Vibe participant for about three years at the Ed Isakson YMCA in Alpharetta. She credits the Club Vibe for “keeping me limber in my aging body.” In preparation for her charity event, she states “Although the only dance classes I’ve ever taken have been at the Y, these have certainly made me feel like I could dance well enough for a charity event.” Linda will be dancing with John James in a salsa/hip hop combination routine.

Linda believes that the Vibe Fitness programming lends itself to the EDIN mission by “helping people connect with their bodies and appreciate what their bodies are capable of regardless of size or shape. Health can come at any size and Vibe helps its participants achieve health through movement. Because Club Vibe classes are more fun than other types of exercise, people are more likely to keep it up.”

A passionate advocate for awareness, Linda says “Part of my mission is educating people that eating disorders are as deadly as breast cancer, yet only receive 1/300th of the amount of money from the NIH for research and education. As a breast cancer survivor, I am grateful for all the awareness that has been brought to this disorder over the years, however as a psychologist who has treated eating disorders for the past 25 years, I am very dismayed at the lack of awareness, understanding, and dollars provided for this devastating disorder.”

Proceeds from this event go directly to helping EDIN continue the mission of early intervention, education, and awareness of eating disorders. If you are interested in supporting Linda by attending the event, you can purchase single tickets $39-150. Use promo code ep2019 to save 10% off of individual seats until March 15th. Make sure to apply the purchase to Linda Buchanan at the end of the payment. http://www.myedin.org/cdc.html
