Why You Should Incorporate Dance in Your Fitness Routine

By: Kelly Schur & Ally Ponte

If you are looking for a fun, upbeat and innovative exercise program that promotes a healthy body and active lifestyle, look no further than dance fitness. Beyond the cardiovascular, muscular and overall health benefits, studies show that dance for exercise stimulates happy endorphins in the brain. It’s good for your mental health, too!

“But…I have no rhythm”

Everyone has some sense of rhythm. Have you considered that you have rhythm when you walk? Your body mechanics and tempo coordinate to keep you moving forward. However, there are several tips and tricks to learn how to move to a musical beat. A professional instructor can help you relax, overcome anxiety, and make learning fun!

“But…I have two left feet”

Did you know there are only a handful of basic steps from which all movement is derived? Once you know these steps, you can then experience the joy and freedom of movement through self expression.

“But…I don’t have any experience”

Fear of the unknown may inhibit the ability to try something new. Everyone has to start somewhere. The more you do it, the better you become. Practice makes PROGRESS, not perfection.

“But…I don’t look like everyone else”

As Patrick Swayze so eloquently stated, “nobody puts Baby in a corner.” Give yourself grace and permission to be authentic. Have you ever watched a young child who is moved by music and appears to be free of fear, care or worry? They just simply move. We were all once that carefree child but somewhere along the way we began adulting and started to worry about what others think. You shouldn’t look like everyone else. You should look like you.

If the risk of minor potential embarrassment outweighs the benefits and rewards of movement, let us help you unleash your inner dancer. You can and will be able to dance and get fit with a little help from your friends at Vibe Fitness®.
